The Hostelz.com Review
The excellent location of City Hostel Berlin, a few blocks away from Brandenburger Gate and the Island of the Museums, is the great advantage of this hostel. It is a comfortable, modern hostel that offers many services and twenty-four-hour reception. There is no curfew and no lockout.

The Location

Getting to the hostel is the easiest since it is only one block from the Mohrenstrasse U-Bahn (subway) station. This station is very central, close to all main Berlin sightseeing spots, which are at a walking distance. There are not many restaurants nearby and since this is a tourist area, their prices are not always very accessible, but an excellent supermarket can be found round the corner.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel occupies a huge several-story building, with large, spacious dorms with maximum six beds per room. The beds are very good quality, brand new, with comfortable mattresses. There are toilet and showers inside all rooms. The maintenance of the place deserves a little more attention (closets without keys, loose shower, and broken shower doors).

Common Spaces

Being a several-story, large hostel, the building offers adequate lifts. The décor is original, with a picturesque piano in the reception and a large pool room, where computers are also located. There is a nice external balcony where people can order drinks and snacks. There is also a cozy internal garden with chairs and tables, where breakfast is served in the open air. A huge, help-yourself, eat-as-much-as-you-can breakfast is included, with fruit juices; eggs; and several kinds of bread, cookies, and ham. There is abundant coffee, several types of tea, chocolate, fruit, and yogurt. Cooking is not allowed at the hostel. A luggage room is available for free.

Summary

This hostel is very comfortable and well located, however, as a big hostel, it is somewhat impersonal. There are always many guests coming in and out and the opportunities of meeting people are limited. As it often receives big groups, like teen school groups, some bustle is expected. The reception team is first class, all English speaking, and very willing to furnish information about town. The hostel offers internet facilities at a low cost.
