Hostelz.com's Review
Old Town Hostel, this little upstairs hostel, is one of the only choices for hosteling in Zadar (though there are many rooms for rent and pensions), which probably contributes to its slightly high prices, but it is a pleasant and well-located place to rest your head while in Zadar.

The Location

As the name suggests, the hostel is located right in the center of the Zadar old town, in walking distance to most sites of interest, including the train and bus stations (though these are a little bit further out). Despite the central location, it can be difficult to find the place -- even locals say that no one knows the names of streets, and signage is minimal. However, once you've found it, it's easy to find your way back via landmarks, and the area seems safe, with a lively bar and restaurant scene nearby (that seems to be made up mostly of university students), but the hostel is not loud, probably due to its location on the top two floors of the building (there is no lift).

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are simple but clean, with plenty of space and furniture that is a bit worn but still ok. There is not much by way of extras in the room -- maybe a chair, wastebasket, or small communal dresser. The bathrooms are squeaky clean, brand-new and modern, with lovely hot showers, toilet, hooks, soap, and even bathmats. We can't emphasize enough what a pleasant surprise these bathrooms are, as we'd almost feel comfortable eating off the floor in some of them!

Common Spaces

There is a small common area with a tiny kitchen in the hallway of the lower floor near reception. There are tea making facilities and enough supplies to do some minimal cooking, but in general the area seems a bit cramped and fills up fast. Internet computers (free) are located in the hallway of the upstairs floor. Despite the common spaces all seeming like hallways, the hostel seems to be at least somewhat social, perhaps because one can't help but pass other guests while going about their business.

Summary

All in all, this is a simple, clean, and friendly place to stay. This hostel may not be exceptional, but it is very pleasant and its design, location, cleanliness standards, and attitude put it at the top of the category in the budget price range for Zadar.
