The Steam Engine’s relaxed vibe and small size make it a great spot to get away from the maddening London crowds! Our hostel rooms are clean and tidy with great facilities for weary travelers, including free linen, free wi-fi and free breakfast in the morning! Those who enjoy a drink will love the friendly atmosphere of our traditional London pub, where locals and visitors regularly mix; it’s a Best of British Backpackers experience!

The Steam Engine Pub is a friendly local legend, offering a great range of local and international beers and ales. The introduction of regular live music and karaoke has the bar buzzing every weekend and the friendly crowd welcomes all! Afternoons are best enjoyed with a frosty pint in the Steam Engine beer garden and BBQ area, playing pool or catching a game on Sky Sports.

Our Location near the vibrant pubs, buskers and bars of Southbank on the Thames also puts visitors within walking distance of the London Eye, Westminster and the Houses of Parliament. We are in Central London Zone 1, which is ideal for budget travelers, with excellent public transport links from Lambeth North underground station (Bakerloo Line) and Waterloo Station.

Location	•From Heathrow Airport to Lambeth North Station • Walk to Heathrow Terminals 1-2-3. Take Piccadilly Line towards Cockfosters to Piccadilly Circus. Then, take the Bakerloo Line to Lambeth North. The entire journey will take approximately an hour. • • From Victoria to Lambeth North Station • Take the Circle Line to Embankment. At Embankment transfers onto the Bakerloo line to Lambeth North. The journey will take approximately 15 minutes. • • From Gatwick Airport to Lambeth North Station • Take Thameslink Rail towards Bedford to London Bridge. Then take the Northern Line to Elephant and Castle. Transfer onto the Bakerloo Line to Lambeth North. The entire journey will take approximately 50 minutes. • • From Stansted Airport to Lambeth North Station • Take the Stansted Express train or bus to Liverpool Street Station. Take the Central Underground line to Bank and change to the Northern line. Head south to Elephant & Castle. Change to the Bakerloo line and get off at Lambeth North. Take Thameslink Rail towards Brighton to Farringdon. Then, take Metropolitan Line towards Aldgate to Moorgate. Transfer to the Northern Line to Elephant and Castle. At Elephant and Castle transfer onto the Bakerloo Line to Lambeth North. The entire journey will take approximately 80 minutes. • • From Lambeth North Underground to Bestplace 'Waterloo' • From Lambeth North Station, when you exit the station you will see a large Church, cross the road and walk past it so that it is on your left, you are now on Kennington Rd.
