The Hostelz.com Review
Small hostel located in the center of Madrid and within half a block of a metro stop. It's on the 4th floor (5th in American-speak), but there is an elevator ("lift" in Brittish-speak). There is a common area with TV, bar, and kitchen. Male and female dorms are segregated to separate wings of the floor. The bathroom facilities are good and the staff is friendly. Extra €5 "day fee" if you want to stick around after your checkout time.

I had an amazing experience here because of the people. The common room is arranged to maximize the amount of socializing. As for the facilities themselves: some of the cleanest I've seen. Bedrooms are clean, and cleaned daily. Washrooms are very clean, and the showers are clean and unclogged. Breakfast is bread and coffee. I mean, what can you expect? To be fair, the bread was NOT stale.

I stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of July. This place is wicked! Very social hostel, I got along with everyone, and met amazing people here. The common room is ingeniously sets up the sofas in a way that everyone has to socialize. The staff were friendly and chilling. The breakfast was about standard (bread and coffee, but backpackers shouldn't be eating like kings anyway). Overall...WICKED WICKED. And in a good location, only 5 minutes from the Puedo del Sol central square.

This is definitely the worst hostel I've ever visited. The only redeeming quality is the awesome location. The rooms are cramped, dingy, and smelly, and there's absolutely no security. You could probably even find your way in and sleep in a bed for free. When I woke up it was obvious that this had been achieved by several of the people sleeping two to a bed. The "breakfast" consists of stale bread, mystery jam, powdered coffee, all serve-yourself and then wash your own dishes. The bathrooms are all unisex and dirty. This place sucks. If you want typical American tools, stay here.

This was a GREAT hostel! It is very social, and has a great location. It's nice and colorful, with clean bathrooms (and lots of them) and a big communal area with couches. It's close to all the action. If you want a hostel with loads of nationalities and a real party atmosphere, this is the place!

This place is so close to the Metro you won't actually believe it when you get there! The rooms and the kitchen were nice and clean, but the bathroom wasn't quite up to the same standard. There were still workmen around when I was there at the end of September, but they didn't start work too early. It is really close to everything and does have a relaxed and friendly environment. I found some interesting people to party with! I highly recommend you take a trip with a gang of people (including a funny Irishman and a South American who can play guitar) and a few bottles of wine to the palace late at night! And watch your pissed mate fall in a fountain! Sorry, I got off the point there. It's definitely a good place, but breakfast isn't up to much and it's not really worth getting up for (I think you have to have it before 9:45 a.m.)

I've stayed in the hostel that's near the opera. It was pretty cool, a happy place to be, especially during the weekend. It has a very cool bartender and a nice receptionist, along with other cool and welcoming staff. It's a party place where people have fun and meet each other. I was pretty tired when I got here, and my room was lacking a lot of fresh air. These were my main concerns.

Good Points: Good, safe location, easy to meet people, soft beds, personal lockers and bed lamps, good kitchen and clean bathrooms Bad Points: breakfast which consists soley of bread and water, some theft at the hostel, rooms 5 and 6 are located right next to the office so they are extremely noisy, and terrible shower pressure, along with early morning lines for the bathroom. Summary: Nothing special. Decent. I would stay in a Bed and Breakfast in the future.

Very, very good hostel! Especially the newer one, that is near the "older" one; it is in the same square!! You're gonna be near everything! Everything there is so clean--very good! I recommend staying there! It was the best hostel in Europe!

What are you all smoking? So before I came to Madrid, I checked out this site to find out where to stay. This hostel had all these great 4 and 5 star reviews, so I chose to stay here. This place was AWFUL. They cram you into a tiny room, there is no room to move around or put your luggage. There are no fans or AC, and when you have so many bodies packed into one room things can get pretty hot. I would've switched hostels, but oh yeah, they make you pay everything in advance, so I would've lost my money had I switched. They turn the lights off at 11. They don't open the "common area" until 7 or 8 am. There is no room to congregate or socialize. The only good thing about this hostel is the location. I liked the location. I guess that was pretty important, because this place is so sh*tty that you're going to want to be in a good location so you can spend as little time as possible in the craphole. Once gain guys, stop smoking the weed and get a clue. I've travelled extensively through the Americas, both Central and South, and this place makes those places look like the Four Seasons. If you can stay elsewhere, I'd recommend it.

This was nice. Beds are clean and the breakfast is average. One of the reception guys was not that good, but the other one was very helpful and kind. I recommend this hostel.

A good hostel. Our room was near the street, so it was noisy at night. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The bathrooms and bedrooms were clean. The only thing that sucked were the long waits for the Internet, and the lights went out at about 9 or 10 p.m. There's a kitchen, too. Great location--I'd return here!

This was by far the best hostel that I stayed at in Europe. The breakfast is small, bread and coffee or hot chocolate, but the staff are helpful and friendly and it was cleaner than any other hostel that I stayed in. There is no curfew and the lights out at 11 is no big deal because there are still lights in the room that you can use. Also, if you bring a padlock you can lock all your stuff in the locker provided in your room. I recommend this hostel to anyone staying in Madrid!!!
