Fabulous, Very Welcoming, and Comfortable I stayed there two nights and my family joined me on the second night. I have stayed in hostels before but this by far the best. The kitchen was stocked with everything needed to cook and the common room was very comfy and had such a relaxing atmosphere. I will definitely be staying there again. Candace has done a great job!

Excellent. Great place to stay. One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Candace is very nice and helpful. The place is super clean and looks like brand new. I can recommend staying there, I'll do next time I'm in Durango.

Unbelievably splendid This is a hostel only in the sense that there are dormitory-style rooms, and the prices are very low. In every other respect it's a very high class Bed and Breakfast. Brilliant facilities, spotlessly clean, little touches like free earplugs available in the (sparkling, modern) bathrooms. The only bad thing I can say about it is that if this is your first experience in a hostel, it will spoil you for staying in any others none I have stayed in or heard about comes within a lightyear of this one.

Great place to stay! I biked all over Europe for twenty years and did five major bike trips in Northern America as well. During these vacations I stayed in a lot of hostels and I must say Durango can compete with all of them, even the best! My English is poor and it is hard to find the right words to express my opinion on this hostel. Go there and find out yourself!

Fantastic experience I was traveling with two kids, eleven and thirteen, and it was our first time in a hostel. We stayed five nights at Hometown Hostel and had a great time. Candace, who owns/operates the hostel, is great. She obviously cares deeply about what she's doing and it shows! The place is spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable, and there's freshly brewed coffee every morning. The full kitchen, with plenty of dishes, pots, and pans meant we had home cooked dinners every night. Both my kids said that coming back to Hometown Hostel at the end of a full day felt like coming home, not like going back to the motel.

Excellent facilities, well-managed Not only is this hostel squeaky clean and incredibly comfortable to lounge in (a crackling fire and coffee in a pleasant mountain setting after skiing -- what could be better?), it is the management that stands out. Candace, the manager, is incredibly friendly and interested in her guests having a comfortable stay. We had an incident one night with a drunken fellow guest (not at all a dangerous incident, just annoying) and Candace kicked the guest out and generously gave us partial refunds. Though this hostel may have higher prices than most, Candace is clearly interested in maintaining an orderly and relaxing atmosphere. I will stay there again!

Well kept; Great amenities; Friendly, helpful management Great facility, Newly restored, Good location. Candace is very helpful and works hard to keep the place in good order. Expensive by hostel standards perhaps, but the cheaper hotels in Durango go for $55-plus/night. and they don't have nice kitchens and ready to go computers.
Outrageously priced The hostel is quite nice as other people have said but it is really expensive! It is one of the most expensive hostels anywhere in the western U.S. I felt genuinely offended at being charged such an exorbitant price for a hostel. I paid $15 for a dorm bed in Santa Fe, $18 in Albuquerque, $18 in El Paso, $20 in Tucson, but $30 in Durango. (Ouch!) It's not even close to reasonable. And don't tell me that it is because Durango is an expensive place. Santa Fe is just as expensive as Durango yet their hostel is half the price. Hostels are supposed to be a nonprofit operation, and an inexpensive accomodation. Some of the independent motels in town charge around $49 for two people, so two can get a private room cheaper than two dorm beds at the hostel. It's unfortunate that the owners have decided to charge such high prices for this place. I hope they will reconsider their policy of charging exorbitant rates for a dorm bed.

Excellent facilities, very welcomming management I stayed there for two nights. It is managed by the owner, Candace, who is very welcoming and helpful. The house is spotless and like new. There is free internet access (there is a donation box for voluntary contributions to defray costs) from three computers. I highly recommend this hostel.

Brilliant I found this hostel on what was supposed to be an overnight stop in Durango. It quickly turned into three days. What an amazing place. I have backpacked all over the world and this is probably the best hostel I have stayed in. Spotless, comfortable, friendly, modern. Candace the owner is also great. She came out partying with us the one night when we hit the town. She really runs a fantastic place. Don't pass up the opportunity to stay here. Oh, Durango is also home to a bunch of fantastic micro-breweries -- just another reason to visit!

Very good. I have stayed at a number of hostels over the past years, but I consider the Durango Hometown Hostel to be the best in my experience. It has a new, clean, and fresh feel about it, with many special touches. Candace Lemon, the Proprietor, while professional, is friendly, pleasant, and personable. Because Durango is her hometown, she knows the area firsthand and can share valuable information with those who are quests at her "hometown" hostel. I do not hesitate to recommend it -- a lovely place to stay in a lovely setting!

Fantastic! Very welcoming atmosphere, Candace makes coffee for guests every morning. Kitchen well stocked with all dishes/cookware/utensils and entire place extremely clean and organized. I stayed in the female dorm and the bed was very comfortable, nice to have the locker. Enjoyed meals on the rear deck, helpful to have the computers (three) for those of us without laptops. Wonderful to leave my car there and walk to downtown Durango, also rode the "T" another day, very easy.

Best hostel ever We were fortunate enough to be literally the first guests at this hostel -- we arrived in Durango on the day the hostel opened! Candace and Faith are really nice, the facilities are immaculate and new, and everything is laid out very intelligently. Comfortable beds, great water pressure in the shower, fantastic kitchen (with cookies in the freezer at the time we were there), lovely patio out back. We were sad to leave, and we'll be back for sure. We recommend this place to anyone!

Wonderful! One of the best environments I have ever stayed in. When most people think of hostels, they think, like myself, of bare bones sleeping accommodations. Staying at this facility is almost luxurious in comparison with other hostels. I came "home" to the smell of fresh cooked meals on more than one evening, and I was able to use the kitchen, which is fully stocked with utensils, pots, pans, myself. Anyone planning a short stay in Durango owes it to themselves to at least stay here one night -- make it your first and it probably wont be your last. All in all it is a clean, comfortable, quiet, and welcoming environment in which to lay your head. Have you visited this Hostel? Post your comments here.
