The Hostelz.com Review
The Flying Time Youth Hostel is a party hostel located in a beautiful old building near the heart of Sibiu. The hostel has an on-site bar, cafe that's packed at all hours, and many different choices of accommodation. We found the hostel to be a bit too loud for our tastes, but that may be due to our choice of the six-bed dorm which faces the courtyard, where nineties rock can be heard blasting throughout the day and most of the night.
The Location
Flying Time Hostel is located just a stone's throw away from Piata Mare, which is the main square. It's also just a ten minute walk from the train station. The building is old, romantic, a bit shoddy but still clean and quite beautiful.
Rooms and Bathrooms
We stayed in the six-bed dorm because we figured it would be less crowded than the ten-bed dorm. Despite showing up at the hostel with no reservation, we had the whole dorm to ourselves. The dorm has bunk beds, which are quite comfortable, but lacks lockers. Bedding is included in the price. We had access to two bathrooms, both located across the hallway. There is one large private bathroom with a clean shower and a gender-separated bathroom on the other end of the hallway. All of the facilities are very clean with plenty of space. Although their website says that linens are free, we were not offered linens and used our own towels.
Common Spaces
The hostel is usually bustling with travelers and there are many opportunities and places for socializing. There is a bar located by the entrance, the reception is located across the courtyard, and the cafe encompasses the courtyard and other areas. Most of the rooms are on the second floor, including a common room, which has a TV with more than twenty channels and a computer with free internet access and many comfortable pillows to lay on.
The kitchen is very large and has everything necessary for cooking a cheap meal (the nearest grocery store is only a few minutes away) and washing dirty clothes (there is a small, reasonable charge for using the machines). There is a large, leafy courtyard in the middle of the two-story building. The bar and courtyard area are a bit smoky but the dorms smell quite free of smoke. There is no book exchange.
Summary
Flying Time Hostel has a wonderful location, a great building and its cafe and bar offers many opportunities for meeting new people. While guidebooks recommend booking well in advance, our experience shows this isn't necessary. Still, if you are looking for somewhere relaxing, stay away from the six-bed dorm facing the courtyard because there is no curfew and the guests are not asked to stay quiet after a certain time, and it doesn't seem like the stereo is turned off until well into the night. The guests who stay in the ten-bed dorm, which does not face the courtyard, shouldn't be disturbed by the sounds from the courtyard. Despite these annoyances, Flying Time Hostel is a great place to stay with a friendly atmosphere, reasonable prices, and a location that can't be beat.

Great location and staff I stayed in a 10 bed dorm room. It was quiet the night that I stayed there. I think it was more social in the other dorm room. The rooms and bathroom were clean. Breakfast was not included, but I made use of the kitchen they had. This was a minute a way from Piata Mare and about 15-20 minutes away from the bus and train stations by foot.
