Welcome friends, to casual heaven at Lucy's Homestay. Lucy is such a dear soul whose pleasant demeanor and strong maternal instincts will certainly earn you a place in her heart. The hostel itself is an upstairs apartment which is converted into a very decent place to stay and has a very homey atmosphere.
The Location
The location is just outside the center and so more quiet than other places you can go. It is still just a five minute walk to the center anyway. It is located just behind Borneo Backpackers just down the road from the long distance bus station.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are three dorm rooms with four beds each. They are kept clean and are equipped with a fan. There are also lockers big enough to store valuables (though certainly not big enough for the whole backpack). There are also a few doubles available. The toilets and showers are also quite reasonable. Lucy will also do your laundry for a price.
Common Spaces
The main area involves a large table where the free breakfast is served each morning. There is also a television where Lucy's sons are perpetually watching local programs. A decently stocked library/book exchange is off to the side and is equipped with a few couches perfect for afternoon reading/napping. She also has quite a charming balcony great for those few beers before heading for the bars.
Summary
This is the place to be if you want to avoid the backpacker packed places in the city center. It is quiet and very relaxed. For the per-night price, it is also in good competition with the other options. You won't regret it.

A small, tightly-controlled hostel with a curfew and a reluctant host. I did not stay here, but I stopped by to check for availability. The host (Lucy, I assume) was less than welcoming. She made a point of letting me know there was a curfew time when they lock the doors for the night. Lucy's is a very small, cramped place.
