Hostelz.com's Review
Hostal Lili Patagónico's is really a family house, and the owner is only twenty-five years old (in 2008) and he lives there with his younger sister! It's a two-floor house, with the rooms on the ground floor and the common living area, kitchen, and dining area on the first floor. The high point is really the homey atmosphere and the low point is the cold bathrooms. Also worth noting is that the owner is currently building an extra bathroom, so it's not completely finished yet (lacks a wall mirror, a hook, and a window!).

The Location

Puerto Natales is small and you're never far from anything. Hostal Lili is located at the corner of av. Arturo Prat and av. O'Higgins and it's just a couple of blocks to a supermarket, bus offices (no central station), main plaza, and seafront. It's a quiet area with little traffic in the street.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The doubles and the triple room have gorgeous, down duvets but sadly the dorms have only blankets. As this is a family hostel, the dorms are not as well thought-out as in a backpackers hostel. There are no lockers, no hooks -- just one bunk and one single bed and a couple bedside tables. Heating is with a little gas heater.

The bathrooms are like bathrooms in a guestroom. There are three on the ground floor and they each contain a shower, a toilet, and a sink, and also a hook and a mirror in some. However, bathrooms have no heating so it can get pretty cold in there!

Common Spaces

In this family hostel, the common space is also the owner's living area. So in the living room where the nice and warm fireplace, the TV and the two computers (with free internet) are, he will sometimes bring his friends (they are nice, young people, but it could be intimidating for someone shy). All in all, since the common first floor -- with its conventional living room setup -- is the place where everyone hangs out, it is really easy to start up a conversation with whoever is there and meet local young folks. This place has a nice, welcoming vibe to it, and you really feel like a guest.

You can use the kitchen, but, again, it's also the owner's kitchen, so his leftover pasta or tomorrow's breakfast for the guests might be lying around on the counter. But you will always be able to cook there if you want. In the dining/breakfast area, there are books up for exchange. The owner can keep your bags in a separate storage area.

Summary

Although the house doesn't look like much from the outside, the warmth of the owner and his house will make you feel at home here. It's worth noting that this is one of the few places open in winter!

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
5   Excellent in every aspect This is a hostel not a hotel and regarding this it's an excellent hostel -- close to bus stations, travel agencies, good restaurants, close to the waterfront if you fancy old boats, big liners, black-necked swans, and gale force winds. The staff makes you feel at home and because of their good English you can have a nice conversation; if you're curious, they are a good source of information about local matters/traveling. They try hard to make this little hostel work. It's above all spotlessly clean and secure and my room was never cold.I stayed there from 3 to 6 January this year. They also looked after my suitcase 6 days for free while I was trekking in Torres del Paine. I would definitely recommend it.  , British / London ()
