The Hostelz.com Review
Khaosan Ninja is a neat place, with tiny dorm rooms and modern amenities.
The Location
Khaosan Ninja Hostel is located very close to Bakurocho station (if you can find exit 4C -- follow exit 6 and you will see the signs!). There are a few restaurants and convenience stores close by, but other than that, it's a pretty dull neighbourhood -- not half as charming as Asakusa.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The tiny dorms are typical of Tokyo, so nothing shocking here. The beds (bunk beds) and covers are comfortable, and there is even a little table and chair in the private rooms. You are given a key for your room and one for the building and each floor door opens with an electronic code. The showers are very clean and work very well, with plenty of them on each floor.
Common Spaces
The common lounge in the basement is a good area to hangout and there are two free internet computers there (another three by reception on the ground floor). Coffee and tea are free during the day, but no breakfast is provided. There is book exchange, a widescreen TV with DVDs, and sofas and tatami areas as seating. It's a very nice place to meet fellow backpackers.
Summary
Apart from the uninteresting neighbourhood, Khaosan Ninja is good value for money. The staff are very friendly and the hostel itself is just spotless clean and comfortable. It's on the Narita Airport train line and on the Tokyo metro line, so getting out and about isn't complicated.

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews

Quiet, clean Generally a nice place to stay, especially if you want a place that is less chaotic than in the center of things, and quieter. The rooms were quite clean, the staff friendly, and the guests respectful. The cabin beds are also a unique experience, though I suggest you pass on them if you're staying more than a couple of days. The novelty wears off quickly. All in all, a great stay. — Trevor , USA (2009-12-15)

One of the best hostels I have ever been. Really helpful staff. The hostel was very clean and the common room really cosy. Just one stop with the JR to the Yamanote Line. — pandazavur , Bulgaria (2009-05-05)

Unique The staff -- super-friendly and helpful! The common room -- huge, casual, full kitchen, sofas, movies, even a karaoke machine. Good place to meet people. Free internet on computers and free Wi-Fi. The cabin beds were unique, that's really all I can say about them. Some may love the additional privacy they afford, but personally I found it a bit like sleeping in a box -- kind of claustrophobic and damp. The location is so-so -- there's nothing much around the area of the hostel itself, but it's convenient for the subway and JR for sightseeing around Tokyo and getting to and from Narita, and only one stop away from Tokyo Station. It does feel a bit institutional at times, as it's so large, but it's a pretty good place to stay overall, and a good base for seeing Tokyo and meeting other travelers. — Sarah , Canada (2008-11-26)
