Great community! The cozy, modern-lodge decor was great, serve-yourself waffles in the morning are a plus, but the best part about staying at the Simple Lodge was the community its owners obviously worked hard at creating. John and Julia don't just own a hostel, they welcome guests into their family. We were there over Thanksgiving and the place came alive with travelers and locals alike sharing in a communal dinner, complete with a local bluegrass duo. I loved it. — Virginia , USA (2009-12-08)

Excellent This hostel offers a higher quality experience than any hostel I've stayed at before. The accommodations and location are very nice, but the difference is the atmosphere. I've never experienced a hostel that does so much to create a positive and friendly environment for its residents. Kudos to the operators! — matthew , usa (2009-11-29)

Fantastic! I recently had the pleasure of staying at Simple Lodge & Hostel. I dare say, I have seen hostels of all flavors, from the worst to the best, and Simple is absolutely one of the best! It hits all the necessities -- clean, full kitchen and fridge, great bunk rooms, showers with warm water, and linens. But Simple Lodge & Hostel goes above and beyond hitting the staples. It is charming, modern, and has a great atmosphere. Whether you are passing through Salida on your own or you are with friends, you are bound to make some new ones while chowing down around the big wood dinner table or while toasting up s'mores on the terrace around the fire pit. Jon and Julia give great tips about what to do in the area, and are lovely hosts. I am usually hunting for a hostel once I have picked my destination, but Simple brings the destination to Salida! — Julia , USA (2009-03-09)

Great location in a great town. I have stayed at this hostel several times since it opened in May, 2008. Kimberly, Jon, and Julia have done a fantastic job renovating an historic building into a cozy inviting hostel. Lots of color and sustainable practices used in creating budget lodging in an adventure town. This was a long time coming, and I am sure you will enjoy it and your hosts. Note, they have expanded as of Dec. 2008, and have sixteen bunk beds and two private rooms now. Three showers and two toilets. Check it out! — Julie , USA (2008-12-13)
