The Hostelz.com Review
Anglican Diocesan Guest House is a bit of an oddity. It has massive common areas resembling those of some massive hall with high ceilings in Europe's older times. It is a basic accommodation all around run by a kindly family.
The Location
The location is very decent. Getting in initially is a bit of a walk. However, once you are in and get a key for the front gate, then you have your distance to the town center cut to a fraction -- you no longer have to take the main street back down and around the place. Internet is close as are a number of restaurants.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms themselves are decent enough and include four beds and a fan as well as a storage locker with a lock and key. They are reasonably clean. The bathroom upstairs is more or less disgusting, whereas there are massive, spic and span bathrooms for each sex downstairs with toilets and shower stalls aplenty.
Common Spaces
The common areas for the most part are dim and cold looking. There are a few sparse looking pieces of wooden furniture amongst the massive high-ceilinged rooms.
Summary
Ultimately it's not a bad place to stay, though there are better and cheaper in Kuching. The dance hall down the street may keep you awake at night, though. Be aware that this is a church estate and therefore there are church functions that happen here (probably mostly on Sundays), so you may want to avoid it around that time.

Good alternative accommodation for backpackers the rooms are very cheap, even by backpacker's standard. I've stayed there in 2007. Got the whole room to myself for only RM18. Room with 2 single bed, a desk and a chair. Common shower rooms at ground floor are massive (no hot shower). Location couldn't be better. Just a stone throw away from old town centre and riverfront. Would definitely stay there again in future visit to Kuching. — Konstantine Choo, Malaysia - Seremban (2011-07-03)

I have stayed there a number of times always with a nice atmosphere, and conveniently placed for town centre. In fact I plan to revisit Kuching in a few weeks and would like to stay for a few nights. — william Howe, British , but live in France (2010-01-12)
