Fantastic hostel/owners! My boyfriend and I (early to mid-twenties) stayed here for two nights last weekend. When we arrived, Edit, the owner, was nothing but friendly and accommodating for us! We stayed in the private room for $30 that was just built by her boyfriend, the other owner -- Csaba -- and it was excellent. We mentioned to Edit that we wanted to go to Montezuma too and she happily booked a boat for us there and back and made all the reservations without hesitation or even us asking her to do it for us. She let us wait on our reservation until we got back from Montezuma, which I've never run into a hostel that would do that. Other than Edit being fantastically trusting and a huge sweetheart, the kitchen area is clean and air conditioned with a computer and TV, the rooftop plays music and has a great hangout atmosphere, there's a grocery store and pharmacy right across the street, and plenty of good people surrounding you. — Coloradoan Couple , USA (2009-12-01)

Unclean and uncomfortable, but good hosteling atmosphere It's a cool spot to hang out. The hostel owner is a young lady name Edit from Hungary. She's very nice (though we found out not altogether honest, and a bit brittle, more on that below). Good location. If you like Jaco, you'll like this spot. Close to the beach (five-minute walk), grocery store, bars, hookers, no less than five drug dealers will be out front at any given time. It's filthy, at least when we were there. Other people have given it good reviews for cleanliness so maybe they were having an off week. The bathrooms were disgusting and smelled like the big cat house at the zoo, the beds had bugs in them, the floor of the room hadn't been swept in weeks. We are pretty laid back travelers, but we didn't feel comfortable at all here. Beds are terrible. I've stayed in a lot of hostels so I know not to expect luxury, but decently comfortable arrangements can be obtained by a hostel owner for very cheap. These bunks have a thin foam mattress and a lumpy pillow -- which is fine. But the part that ruins it is that the bunks don't have a solid board under the mattress pad; rather, they have wooden beams going across with about one-and-a-half feet of space between each beam. Since the pad is so cheap and thin, it's like you're sleeping on a horizontal stepladder. Seen the pull out couch Seinfeld? You'll be sore. Hostelier is a bit wacky and unscrupulous. We booked two nights, and it was so nasty that we decided to leave after the first. We talked to Edit in the morning, and she immediately got defensive and weird about it. We tried to explain that it was nothing to be taken personally, but she clearly was taking it personally. Finally her boyfriend agreed that if she could sell the beds for that night she wouldn't charge us. Well, Jaco is a small town, and that night at the bar we met the two travelers who had shown up and booked our beds in our very same room at the hostel. So we thought we were good on that second night's charge. Nope, credit card bill came through and they charged all of us for two nights. — Matt , American (2009-05-31)

Fun, friendly, and and a lot of fun. Edit and Csaba are pura vida. If you aren't familiar with what that means, I urge you to book your reservation now, and go to Las Camas to find out. — Linda C , Texas, USA (2009-01-08)

Awesome place! We'll be back! While traveling through Costa Rica, our favorite three days were spent at this inviting hostel in downtown Jaco. We opted for a private room/shared bath and found our room to be quite comfortable. The highlight of these three days were our wonderful hosts and all of the other guests we lived with during this time. The atmosphere was very laid back and comfortable. — Diana & John , United States (2008-11-06)

Brilliant Las Camas is a great hostel. Rooms are clean; there is air conditioning; and you have free run of a kitchen, TV area, balcony, and of course the rooftop. It is safe and the couple who run it are very helpful and friendly. — Amanda , British (2008-09-28)

Home sweet sweet Home! Las Camas is absolutely fabulous! Edit and Csaba are the warmest and most welcoming people and great hosts. Most people we have met during our two stays in this happy hideaway in Jacó have returned for more. What is so special about this hostel? The people, the atmosphere, the interior design. It seems to only attract people that are fun to hang out with. With whom you can cook an international meal with in the homely kitchen, get drunk with in the swings at the bar, or make some fireplace music on the roof terrace. Good days, good days!
The place is perfectly clean, safe, and has wireless internet. I will be back as soon as possible. Hope to see you there! — Hiske , the Netherlands (2008-05-23)

Very clean! Very nice people run these place, a young couple from Hungary, who speak perfect Spanish and English. Very helpful in good detail information of Jaco and vicinity. They also care about your having a good time in the hostel. they are so friendly that makes the whole hostel environment with the same friendly energy. you can party with your new friends without a problem. Common areas are very clean. Bedrooms are very clean too but it's going to depend on your roommates.
I had a great time and I definitely would go back again! Check that out by yourself and you won't regret it! — Otto , USA (2008-05-19)
