Good for the money! this is a true hostel, with bunk beds and one sink in the room! it is not a five star hotel. there are no double beds (that i've seen) and the bathrooms are simply functional, not luxurious. but in my six times staying at this hostel, i've never had a dirty room, bugs, or rude service. the only problems i've encountered have been a few bathrooms under construction (in which case you just go to another floor) and maybe some noise at night if you sleep with the door to the balcony open (the street is not the cleanest or most tame at night). other than that it is a steal for the money! internet, a/c, clean beds and storage. unless you are a spoiled brat used to staying at the holiday inn, (in which case you shouldn't be staying at a hostel) you will enjoy your stay. there is no "sexual moaning" at night!

Clean, comfortable, convenient, and safe place to stay inexpensively This is an inexpensive hostel that was clean, comfortable, and convenient. Hot showers, clean sheets, a blanket when I asked for one, safe enough to leave my camera unattended on my bed in room while showering, sink in the room for shaving, free internet. You get what you pay for when you share a room with bunk beds (strangers sharing a room with you) but though the neighborhood bordered on a shady area it was perfectly safe for any adult, male or female, and I suffered no noise disturbances from other guests or from outside, the staff were friendly and helpful, and I'd stay there again. If I had small children I might have second thoughts due to the streetwalkers out soliciting a couple blocks away in the wee hours of the morning, but for a single middle-aged man I thought it was great. Lots of youngsters on their own there, male and female. This place is just fine if you just want a clean, friendly, and comfortable place to sleep and wash up.

We stayed at Zeus in November 2006. Quite an experience. Day and night you can hear the sexual moaning of prostitutes. The doors don't lock properly. The showers and toilets are interesting to say the least. But the neighbourhood is terrific, close to everything. Don't book your mother in at the Zeus!

Dear mother of god. Last time I was in Europe, I stayed in Hostels exclusively. I never had any problems with them before, no matter how cheap they were. This by far is the worst hostel/establishment that I've ever stayed in. The hookers that filled the street when we arrived (came in from the islands, the ferry got in at 1:30 a.m.) were amusing, but overall the neighborhood is very bad (even confirmed by the doorman). The hostel itself looks like it was a brothel turned hostel. The door to our room had been kicked in more than once previously, the lock on the door was mostly just to make you feel better, as it really didn't lock - and the bed had some form of bed bugs. There are bars on the windows three stories up, which is also amusing, but it also makes you wonder. Frankly, its location is nice, though the neighborhood and hostel are not.

It's ok -- clean and not extra hot, but it's just to go for a sleep. Lacking entertaining facilities I think.

The location of this hostel is great, you can easily gain access to the places of interest like the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and the Ancient Agora. Other places within walking distance are the Academy, National Park, as well as the National Library. Besides, if you feel like going somewhere besides these, the metro station is just nearby. Moreover, restaurants and cafe nearby is opened till as late as one or two a.m., so if you are hungry, that shouldnt be a problem. No curfew in this hostel!
Last but not least, the staffs there are helpful as well -- willing to tell more about the place of interest. So, I would like to recommend fellow backpackers who are looking for budget hotel, Hostel Zeus is what you want!!

This is possibly, no not possibly, the worst hotel/hostel that God has ever put on the face of the planet. It was not newly renovated. It's in the middle of renovations, the bar is closed, there is dust everywhere, the showers have no hot water, and there is an abundance of water damage that they must use as their homespun decor. It is in a bad neighborhood and a very dirty street. I give it the fact that it is close to the sights, but that is it. It is the lowest of the low, of the low, of the lowest possible low of the low. That makes no sense but I want to get my point across. Never stay there if you can help it, it is not worth the trash on the outside on the street.

Hostel Zeus is kind of what you expect from a cheap European hostel. It wasn't pretty but it had (what seemed like) clean sheets, hot water, and a pretty helpful staff that worked at the desk. Don't stay there if you are looking for something atmospheric! Good location though--quick walk to the main attractions.

This hostel has obviously improved greatly over time. It's got good clean rooms, modern bathrooms, etc. Great location in Monastiraki near to all the main attractions that Athens has to offer. Friendly staff, but be warned....it's a long way to the top floor with a heavy rucksack!!

Hotel Zeus was great. I stayed for almost a week and it was an adventure. The reception guy took us out to hang with the locals. He was always hilarious, and made sure we were always having a good time. This is not a nice pretty frou-frou, la-di-da place. It's a place to stay for the night, and if you want a good time I'd definitely recommend it. I'd stay again in a heartbeat!

Whatever I'm going to say will not describe what I saw. Don't waste your money there. It's on a noisy street full of brothels and transsexuals, with crimes and fighting all night by drunken people. We couldn't sleep at all. Not to mention the staff person, who was dealing with rubbish and toilet brushes in the same hostel, but then she dealt with customers as the desk woman. She was rude enough, by shouting and by the unfriendly way when she talked, giving orders. She can't believe that she's the desk woman after being the cleaner. The hostel wasn't that clean, and you have to pay a lot to bring your sleeping bag with you. Though there are nice guys on the noon shift and at night. The British guy was perfect by his direction and helps and the Pakistani guy was good as well. Go there to find that all I told you is the truth. Be warned.

I wouldn't say Hostel Zeus is the cleanest or nicest hostel we stayed at during our travels, but the staff made everything better. From the eight cities we visited on the trip, this was the one place we wished we had stayed longer. The owners were two of the most hospitable people we met on our trip. And the staff at the front desk were equally nice. The bar upstairs was fun to hang out at and the hostel was very centrally located. I'd go back any day.

I have to say, even though I expected a lower-than-low hostel, I never expected it to be this low. There was a bar, although not very well-advertised or stocked, but as for everything else they say they have, here's the run-down: they have towels only if you consider one hand towel between two as providing towels; their sheets that don't fit the bed; the shower is communal with a shower door that doesn't shut; the toilets are stinky, and have toilet paper buckets with no lids; and the receptionists fall asleep and are rude. The travel desk is a joke! It is the receptionist, who clearly doesn't know anything about Athens or Greece. They call themselves a hostel, and they have a neon light that says they are a hotel, but both of these types of establishments are professionally-run places. Zeus is not! Also, beware of booking a double room. We booked a double room expecting a double bed, only to find double in their eyes also includes twin! If you don't mind paying a lot for nothing, then go for it, but I for one will never go here again!

I went during the Olympics and paid 100 Euros each a night for bunk beds!! This was cheap compared to other places during the Olympics, so I couldn't really complain. They must have cleaned it up a bit after reading earlier posts. Air conditioning was a bonus as well. It's in a great location, is clean enough, and the staff are friendly. Athens looks fantastic and the restaurants, bars, and clubs 'round the corner in Pyssiri were very good.

I was so tired after walking all over Greece that I died every night. I wish that I had known there was a brothel nearby, though. I was there a week and I watched the Greek people transform the crappy street into a very nice modern metropolitan area. Staying near Monistiraki was the best. I loved buying helmets and a bust of Leonidas.
Hotel Zeus:
1. No bugs
2. Warm showers often getting very hot unexpectedly
3. Plenty of room
4. Hostels do not do well with blankets, so bring a bag or something
5. Noisy street, but tired people sleep well
6. Lots of stairs
7. Working locks.
8. No common room
9. If you want a hostel, okay.
10. If you want a hotel, then no.
