The Hostelz.com Review
PitStop Hostel is a super hostel, especially if you enjoy partying -- this is what most people come to Medellin for.
The Location
The Irish-owned PitStop is located in Poblado, an affluent suburb of Medellin and it's reasonably quiet and safe. This area is within fifteen minutes' walk of Parque Lleras in the Zona Rosa, which offers fantastic nightlife with many bars and discotecas or restaurants to eat at during the afternoon. The Pitstop has a reputation as being a "party hostel" so it's proximity to the Zona Rosa is an advantage. Although this is a safe area during the day, taxis should be taken at night -- there was a mugging nearby during our stay.
The hostel is located a fifteen-minute taxi drive away from the main bus terminal. Travelers are advised to bring the address, as some of the taxi drivers surprisingly did not know the location when we arrived.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are spacious and the hostel provides clean bed linen and towels. The mattresses on the approximately one hundred beds are comfortable, although some have the plastic undersheets. Dorms range in size from singles and doubles to the large "The Wall" dorm for nineteen people, although early sleepers should avoid this room as it is located above the lively bar. Some dorms have their own bathroom while some have shared bathrooms. The rooms have security lockers for valuables but you need your own lock.
Common Spaces
The hostel has every service required by backpackers to turn an intended two- or three-day stay into a full week or more. Evenings are centred around the bar which had a happy hour on cocktails from 7 p.m. Beers and soft drinks are available to buy in the reception all day. Each evening in the bar there are events organised such as a pub quiz, beer pong, pool competitions, or drinking iron man competitions.
In the large hostel garden there is a large swimming pool, table tennis tables, basketball/football court. A comfortable TV room has satellite TV to allow guests to watch sports events or relax watching DVDs. There is a restaurant where all meals can be ordered at reasonable prices. Alternatively for those who prefer to show off their own culinary skills, a well-stocked kitchen is available for guest use. There is a large Exito supermarket ten minutes away.
Internet access is available at a cost on the computers in the hostel reception or by high speed free Wi-Fi if you bring your own device. The hostel is secure and the door is opened by the staff receptionist which is staffed twenty-four hours a day. The reception area contains lots of information on other places in Colombia, accommodation, and transport links. Activities in Medellin including the Pablo Escobar tour or paragliding are available to book at the reception.
Summary
A downside to the party atmosphere is that the hostel is usually male dominated. The hostel is slightly more expensive than other hostels in the vicinity but the facilities are top notch.

The facilities are decent and the layout it nice. The showers could use better curtains so water doesn't go everywhere but the pressure and temp is good

Great hostel & Great staff. This hostel has everything you need.... Swimming Pool, Bar (open til 2am), Pool Table, Dart Board, Mini- Basketball/Football Pitch, Large TV/DVD Room with all cable channels, loads of DVD´s to choose from and very comfy couches, Big Kitchen, Internet, Table Tennis, In-House Laundry, In-House Massuse (though believe she will be off travelling herself soon) and a range of accomodation to suit everyone´s budget. At the time of writing, the dorms ranged between $17,000 to $23,000 Pesos, and privates from $30,000 to $60,000. Initially I was only staying for a weekend, but extended this to 10 days, then returned for a further 5 days after travelling to the North. One of the best atmoshere hostels I have stayed in during my 5 mths travels. Great value for money and would recommend to all.

This hostel has by far the best facilities of any hostel I have ever seen. Pool, Bar, massive TV/Movie room, Kitchen and huge yards. The atmosphere is awesome even when it was a little quiet during our stay. People who have written bad comments about the hostel being out of control need to have a look at what they are getting themselves into before booking and maybe go to a Youth Hostel not a Party hostel.Highly recommend!
