The Hostelz.com Review
Set in a small remote ski town in the Spanish Pyrenees, this hostel has a kind of ski lodge feel to it. There are several large common areas including a TV room and two games rooms. There is internet access available and some vending machines for drinks, coffee, and snacks. The bus to La Molina ski field stops outside the door and costs a couple of euros.

The dorms are mostly four share with two sets of bunks, but they have some twin rooms and some ensuite rooms too. The price of the room includes bottom sheets and pillows only, so bring a sleeping bag, and also includes breakfast. Other meals are available in the cafeteria for about 5 Euros each meal. Unfortunately vegetarians are not well catered for but they will try. There is also a microwave you can use in the cafeteria during meal times.

It is such a large place made of concrete and tiled floors that it feels a bit empty and cavernous. Compared to other places in this area of Spain, however, it certainly has more of a nice hostel vibe going on and is very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful though few spoke any English.

In the area the most prominent activity is skiing. And the scenery is nice. The nearest town in Puigcerda which is not that big or interesting. La Molina has a small strange shop which sells things like Pringles, juice, toilet paper, porcelain ornaments, and 1992 Olympic key rings. If you want anything a trip to Puigcerda is pretty much necessity. There is also one bar in town near the bottom of the train station stairs and a couple of fast food joints up the mountain at the ski resort.

Getting there: There are several trains a day from Barcelona and La Molina is very near then end of the line. It takes roughly 3 hours and about 8 Euros. From the train platform go down the steps and you will find yourself in the middle of "town". Go to your right when you get to the bottom of the steps and follow the road. It kind of feels like you have gone the wrong way as you walk away from the town but, after about 200 meters, if you make it to the scary road tunnel you are on the right track. Run through the tunnel being very careful of traffic. Follow the road another 200 meters and you should be able to see the Hostelling International flags out the front of the hostel. It is on this road but the entry is back from the street about 20 mtrs.
