ZIP112 Hostel

Hostelz.com's Review

Zip112 is among the best of the best when it comes to hostel-style accommodations. Basically, this is where you want to stay when you visit New York City. It has everything a traveler could possibly want. It’s safe, it’s clean, the location is amazing, guests can come and go as they please -- seriously, you can stop reading about other hostels in the city, because this is where you want to stay.

The Location

Don’t be put off by this hostel's Brooklyn location -- it’s less than two blocks from the Bedford Avenue subway station, where the L train carries visitors to the heart of Manhattan in less than ten minutes. Zip112 is also just down the street from the East River Ferry’s Williamsburg terminal, which can transport travelers to both upper and lower Manhattan while giving them unique views of the Brooklyn bridge and other landmarks. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, despite the fact that it is jam packed with all kinds of restaurants, bars, vintage clothing and record stores, and coffee shops. There is an ice cream shop that sells alcoholic-wine-flavored ice cream, a tiki bar, and a Cuban bistro all on the same street as the hostel. However, the best thing about the location is the view from the rooftop terrace. From the lovely private terrace and from both bedrooms, guests have a picture perfect view of the Manhattan skyline, including the Empire State and Chrysler buildings, plus downtown Brooklyn.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The building is clean, modern, and well maintained, though there is no elevator. Since the owner personally cleans the hostel everyday, the place is virtually spotless. The beds are comfortable, and are made with new-looking linens; fluffy pillows; and cozy, down-like comforters. Each room has a large closet and free lockers, so guests have plenty of room to hang up clothing and store their luggage. Hairdryers and some toiletries are provided for guest use. Both the bedrooms and the bathrooms are spacious and well lit, making it easy to get ready in the morning. The upstairs bathroom is quite large and all the plumbing is in good working condition.

Common Spaces

Zip112’s large kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances and all the kitchen utensils a traveler could need during his or her stay. Free internet computers are available for guest use and there is also free coffee and cereal for breakfast. Most of the guests who stay here are female, but all kinds of travelers are welcome at Zip112. It tends to be a quiet place, not a party hostel. The rooftop terrace is a great place for guests to hangout and get to know each other while admiring the one of a kind cityscape that is the Manhattan skyline.

In summary, stay here. The only bad thing about this hostel is that it’s on the fifth floor and there is no elevator. That’s it. Everything else is fantastic. Zip112 is what all other hostels should aspire to be. Stay here and you will not be disappointed. In fact, you probably won’t want to leave.

Clean hostel
We are two male friends from the Netherlands. Our impression of this hostel is that it's very clean. On the website it was not clear that the hostel is only for female visitors. Despite this we were lucky to stay here. The owner of the hostel gave us a warm welcome. It was also very quiet hostel and nice to stay.
