4   What's the fuss? Spoiled or what? I stayed here 4 years ago (I see it's under new management now) for 2 weeks due to injury and got to watch the whole of the Australian Open on the in-room t.v., met some lovely girls from many countries who rotated in and out of my 4-bed room, had a little fridge, comfy clean bed, free breakfast, and helpful staff. Had some good cheap meals at the affiliated pub a few doors down and hopped across the street to the terrific aquarium and museum. 5 minute walk to the Magnetic Island ferry.  , age 67, Canada ()
4   Good hostel, clean, nice staff The hostel is in the middle of Flinders Street, the party street. Although it's getting a bit noisy during the evening, it isn't too loud. So if you wanna have an early night, than this is possible. Free breakfast is provided, as well as a free movie every night. The rooms all having en-suite bathrooms and most of them are four-bed dorms. The rooms are spacious and cleaned daily. The kitchen is a bit small, but clean. Outside area's are comfortable and spacious. Reception is closed after 7 p.m. and they don't provide a emergency after hours number. But if you don't loose your keys, you don't need it. After hours check in or check out is possible. But has to be arranged in advance. General opinion. The hostel is clean, has friendly staff but could improve on a few small things. Some outside painting, opening times of reception, and the refurbish the common area. This would improve the hostel to excellent. I would recommend this hostel to everyone who wants to stay in townsville. But I would recommend Townsville as a town to stay!  , The Netherlands ()
5   Really Great I was very happy with this hostel, can't imagine you'd do better. First, it is a converted motel so each room (I was in a four-share) has its own bathroom with shower. There was also a mini fridge and a small TV in the room. The linen was first rate, commercially laundered, hotel linen and the bunks were modern and comfortable. You can't do better than the location -- right in the centre of the city with the mall and woolworths nearby. One of the best features too is the free breakfast -- 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. There is all the cereal, milk, bread, spreads, tea, and coffee you could want. Add in a plush (though slightly expensive) internet lounge (you'll do better in the mall), plus they have movie screenings free every night. It's not an over the top party hostel and not unfriendly -- just in between.  , england ()
2   Cockroach paradise Everything was really dirty and the people just want to make money out of you. We had bedbugs and about 10 cockroaches living with us. The kitchen is not to bed and you get free breakfast.  , Germany ()
2   Ok for a few days -- no free dinner The hostel looks like it is a old motel, with all the rooms having an en-suite bathroom and toilet. It is really clean and the showers are really nice, but you really have to be lucky with the beds, the first night I stayed here it was really sh*tty and I might as well have slept on the ground. The second night however, I chose another bed in the room and it was alright. What I dont like about the hostel are the nagging signs everywhere, such as "if people dont clean up their mess in the kitchen, kitchen will close" and "checkout 10 p.m. strictly." Both are understandable but it just spoils the atmosphere. The hostel has two nice and big terraces, but unfortunately they close at 11 p.m. Here also there is no leniency -- the owner will ask you to leave ten minutes to 11 and if you're still there finishing your beer or your smoke five minutes later he'll be cranky. Another thing is the "free meals" -- of course you cant expect too much from something that's free, but I would expect something more then the two bites of dinner you get for free through the hostel. It is not a meal! All with all, not so great.  , Dutch ()
1   Shocking! 1 word AWFUL.  , england ()
