South Seas Private Hotel is a rather large hostel situated in the heart of Suva. The building is an old colonial building with wooden floor and high ceilings.
The Location
The hostel is located in a quiet residential area, only a couple of minutes from the city center. The area seems to be quite safe and the hostel does have a security service at night as well. If you are arriving by bus, the hostel is within walking distance (about ten minutes), but if you want to take a taxi you should pay no more than a few dollars. If you arrive at Nausori Airport, a taxi will cost about a bit more. The hostel is easy to find if you have a simple map and the taxi drivers know where it is.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are very clean and have bunk beds. They all have door locks but you are advised to leave your valuables with the receptionist for safekeeping. There are no electricity outlets in the rooms, so if you want to charge something you have to do it in the common area or leave it at the reception. The bathrooms are medium clean and the showers are quite spacious, so you have a lot of room for your stuff.
Common Spaces
There are a kitchen with a dining area, a TV lounge, and a very spacious garden as common spaces. The kitchen is very small and it can get very crowded if several people are cooking. It is equipped for basic cooking but do not expect anything fancy. In the TV lounge, there are several comfortable couches on which to hang out. The tropical garden is huge and has several levels, you can lie in the sun in total privacy without being disturbed by neighbors or fellow travelers. It features palm trees and beautiful flowers. In the evenings, it is very social and you can meet lots of people and have dinner with them.
