How is The Living Place 3 rated?

The Living Place 3 Reviews

The Living Place 3 is average in every aspect -- you get your bed, your shower, and Wi-Fi as well as a place to socialize, but there is nothing to make your stay really memorable. Moreover, as the reception hours are rather erratic, you might have a headache trying to track down the owner upon check-in and check-out.

The Location

The hostel is located in the northeast of Chiang Mai, just outside the city walls. It is not a bad location, as everything that is worth visiting in the historic centre can be reached on foot from here. However, the neighbourhood itself is very residential without much to see, but with plenty of authentic eateries selling food for super cheap prices. The hostel is only open at certain hours of the day, otherwise you can enter with the key that you are given against the payment of a deposit upon check-in. However, sometimes you will have trouble entering even during the official opening times, and you should not be surprised if you find a piece of paper on the door saying that you should call a certain number to be let in. In case you don't have a local SIM card, your best bet is to head next door to the furniture shop, where the owner will call the receptionist for you.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorms have bunk beds, which are quite comfortable, but the adjacent electronic plugs do not always work. The rooms are cooled by air conditioning, which operates only certain hours of the day and there are lockers where you can store your belongings. However, everything looks a bit old and filthy, and the bathrooms are also really simple.

Common Spaces

The common areas are spread out over the ground floor. You have a nice patio in front of the hostel, but this is also the smoking area so unless you smoke, you might not appreciate having cigarettes burning next to you as you are chilling outside. Inside, there are some futons with cushion and there is a mini snack area where you can help yourself to banana or biscuits as well as tea or coffee.

Summary

The Living Place 3 is an ok place for a few nights. Given the fact that you are provided with your own key, it feels very safe and the location is also not bad, but it is without much style or atmosphere. The free fruit and snacks are a nice addition, though.
