Tabinoya - Tallinn's Travellers House Reviews

Tabinoya - Tallinn's Travellers House occupies two last floors of an ancient building overlooking Nunne Street in the Old Town. It is a nice and cozy stay for any traveler.

The Location

The hostel is located near Pikk Yalg (The Long Leg Street) of the Old Town of Tallinn. You can get to the hostel on foot or by bus from the bus station. You can also take a taxi, but keep in mind that taxis are not allowed to the city center at night time.

The reception desk is open from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. (this was uncomfortable for us, as we had to wait for a check-in early in the morning and couldn't leave our bags inside the hostel).

Rooms and Bathrooms

On the first floor of the hostel (which is actually the third floor of the house), there are several dorms (for three to six people) and single rooms, a big kitchen and a reception desk, one toilet room, one shower room with a shower corner, a tub, and a washing machine. They will ask you to leave your shoes at the entrance (we didn't find slippers during our stay, but they say at the reception that there are some, so don't be shy to ask).

On the second floor of the hostel (the fourth floor of the building) there are two shower rooms and two toilets separated by a narrow hall with a small wall cabinet for toiletries. There is a big common room with two sofas, a towel dryer, two tables, and a small window overlooking the old roofs of Tallinn. An eight-bed dorm room is also located there.

The eight-bed dorm room has only one window, and it overlooks a busy street of the Old Town, so no quiet sleep at night time. It is also very noisy in the eight-bed dorm during the day (this is the only negative attribute for us in this dorm room). Every bunk bed has a nightlight, a personal locker, and a curtain. There are plenty of plugins (two plugins per bed and a connector available for upper beds). The eight-bed dorm room is located under the roof and is spacious. Bed linen was already made when we arrived (we found it a bit dirty).

Common Spaces

Almost everything in the hostel is made of wood, so nature lovers will like it. There is also a small sauna in the hostel; you can find it in one of the shower rooms located at the same floor as the reception desk. However, during our stay in July, the sauna was closed and cluttered with some homeware.

The breakfast is from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the kitchen area near the reception desk. You can rest there and read a book. The breakfast is good -- they serve three types of jam, bread, two types of muesli, cheese, salami, and fresh vegetables. You can also make coffee in a coffee brewer.

To get into the hostel, you will need to climb a vintage spiral staircase, which is uncomfortable at night time as there is no light. For sure, this isn't a type of a staircase you dream of when you have heavy bags on you. There is no place to safely keep your luggage in the hostel, but the bags can be left at the reception desk for free. We were not bothered by this fact at all. Anyway, in the rooms they have lockers, and it feels quite safe.

Summary

During our stay the receptionist wasn't very friendly; she speaks bad English and didn't show us around the hostel. She also emphasized that we would have only one free breakfast as we had booked a two-day stay.

Our overall experience with Tabinoya - Tallinn's Travellers House was ok, and we'd agree to come back there again for a short stay.
