Frankfurt Central Hostel Reviews

Frankfurt Central Hostel is a decent hostel for a low price, although you will spend way more money here than you expect.

The Location

It is located by one of the biggest streets, with plenty of cheap bars/booths around. The hostel is located on the fifth floor in a building, but there are both stairs and elevator. There are also Lidl, Aldi, and Penny supermarkets around five minutes' walk away -- it's very convenient! The tram stop is just next to the entrance, so if you use public transport you won't need to walk far. Don't be confused by the hostel's name though -- the distance to the center is slightly more than three-and-a-half kilometers.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms do not offer enough space, especially when rooms are full of guests and their baggage. Beds are rather comfortable but squeaky. On arrival, you will be asked for a per-day city tax, a room-key deposit, and a charge for bedding (if you brought your own bedding/sleeping bag, they won't let you use it anyways, you have to pay). Hostel staff say the price is for one stay, but if you stay longer than five days, they will change your bedding whether you want it or not, charging you the bedding fee again. You will still have to make your bed and bring bedding back to reception desk after your stay. Rooms are equipped with lockers, but you have to pay for them per day (plus another deposit, but in case you lose a key you still have to pay to replace it!). Good thing there is a big window you can open wide -- it is especially useful when the room is full of twelve people.

Bathrooms are very modern, but there are not many of them -- you will probably have to wait for your morning shower, especially during busier days. Additionally, cleaning takes place 10 a.m. to noon, which makes it even more difficult. On the other hand, bathrooms are clean and during our stay there was always a hand towel and soap. If you don't happen to have your own towel, you can rent one for a per-day charge.

Common Spaces

The main hall is a great place to hang out and offers much space, however it is closed between midnight and 6 a.m. It gives you a wonderful view of the street (hostel is on the fifth floor). Additionally, eating in the rooms is not allowed, and main hall is the only place where you can eat (between 6 a.m. and midnight). This is also the only place where you can drink alcohol, but you have to buy it from the reception desk for a rather high price -- drinking your own alcohol is strictly prohibited in all hostel areas. Hairdryers and computers are available for guests, for additional fees. The hostel also offers bike rental for a per-day fee.

Summary

Spend some time calculating how much the stay will cost -- you will avoid disappointments. Frankfurt Central Hostel doesn't apply a fair price policy, it lists rooms for a low price and then charges extra for almost everything else, so other hostels in Frankfurt could offer more for the same price (when you add up all the "hidden" costs). Except that, hostel is pretty comfortable, as long as you know the rules and you are prepared for them.
