Colors of Cape Town Lodge Reviews

Colors of Cape Town Lodge is a lovely place, immaculately kept and ideal for those wanting a quiet retreat from the city center while still being within easy reach of it. This is a pretty good choice.

The Location

One of the quieter suburbs of Cape Town, Milnerton is right on the doorstep of the Rietvlei Wetland Reserve and has an upmarket range of guesthouse options. Milnerton is a little more than fifteen kilometers from Cape Town center, but is easily reached by the My Citi T01 bus route, which drops in front of The Paddocks shopping mall, leaving a ten-minute walk to the guesthouse on a very quiet side street. The Paddocks is also where to go for your self-catering supplies. The Rietvlei Wetland Reserve is just a five-minute walk away.

Rooms and Bathrooms

This small guesthouse has double, twin, and family rooms, plus one large family apartment containing its own kitchen. The dorm consists of eight beds and is on the upper floor and has a balcony. The metal bunks are a bit creaky and rickety and some of the mattresses are a bit on the saggy side. Staying here in the winter months, the thin bedding isn't enough and there are no extra blankets provided. There is a toilet and two shower cubicles leading from the dorm. Each bed has a bedside light and there are a couple of power points in the room. There are lots of cupboards for storage, but no lockers. Some of the private rooms are en suite, while others share clean bathrooms with twenty-four-hour hot water.

Common Spaces

Upstairs, outside the dorm, is a lounge with a couple of sofas and a dining table. The flat-screen TV is also here, and the free Wi-Fi has a good signal here. Downstairs is a dining room where breakfast is prepared at any extra cost and the tiny shared kitchen is behind the reception desk. Guests will find a kettle, toaster, microwave, four-hob electric cooker, and a cabinet fridge. On the front patio, there are some wooden benches overlooking the front lawn and, in the backyard, there is a swimming pool and a braai (BBQ) area in a thatched roof gazebo with tables and chairs.

Summary

This is a lovely place; the only letdown is the dorm beds that aren't really up to the standard of the rest of the house. The bunk beds aren't too comfortable, although the mattresses are variable in quality, so choose carefully.
