Santiago Backpackers Reviews

With daily social events; central location; and bright, modern common areas, Santiago Backpackers attracts a young, lively crowd of backpackers. It is the perfect size -- it's got enough people to create atmosphere, but is small enough to encourage travelers to mingle.

The Location

Santiago Backpackers is centrally located, less than ten minutes’ walk from the main square. This lively area has many shops, bars, and restaurants. There are supermarkets and many ATMs within five minutes’ walk. Many of Santiago’s museums and parks are within walking distance and other areas can be reached by metro.

The nearest metro stations are Bellas Artes (eight-minute walk) and Plaza de Armas (ten-minute walk), both on the green line/Línea Five. The hostel is easily reached by public transport from the main bus terminals, since they have metro stops. There is no public transport to/from the airport, so taxis or transfer services are the only option (this is the case with all Santiago hostels, not just this one).

Rooms and Bathrooms

Santiago Backpackers offers private rooms and dorms of various sizes. The rooms are cheerful, bright, and modern, with colourful bedsheets and art on the walls. They are cleaned regularly and beds are clean and comfortable. The dorms have large lockers and plug sockets by each bed.

There are male and female bathrooms, which contain several toilet and shower cubicles and a modern hand-wash area with mirrors and glass sinks. The number seems sufficient; we never had to wait for a shower during our stay. They are clean and well-stocked with toilet paper and soap.

Common Spaces

There are several great social spaces -- a large kitchen, an outdoor courtyard, and a TV room (all of which are bright, colourful, and modern). A decent breakfast is included in the room price and there is good Wi-Fi signal throughout common areas. Reception is open twenty-four hours and has maps, city information, and a few snacks for sale.

Santiago Backpackers is a social hostel and a great place to meet other travelers. With daily events, ranging from city tours to drinking games, it’s easy to make new friends. The hostel is the perfect size -- there are enough people to create a fun atmosphere, but the common spaces are small enough that people are forced to mingle.

Summary

Santiago Backpackers has all the features of a great hostel -- central location, daily social events, great common areas, comfy beds, free breakfast, twenty-four-hour reception, and good WiFi ... the list goes on! It tends to attract a fun, young crowd and is a fantastic choice for solo travelers, couples, or groups looking to socialise.
