Location

• Rio Drake Farm is located in the south of Costa Rica, in the Osa Peninsula next to the beach and airstrip of Drake Bay. You can access us by plane, boat, bus or car. Below you find the route descriptions.
• How to get here by public transport
• We offer a free pick-up service from your arrival point in Drake Bay. In order to be able to pick you up (in time) please let us know about your arrival place and time with anticipation or call us at (+506) 8830 9911.
• From San José:
• -By plane: Sansa and Nature Air fly both to Drake Bay.
• -By bus and boat: Take a bus from the TRACOPA Bus terminal until Palmar Norte. We recommend taking the bus at 5 a.m. so you can catch the early boat. Take a (collective) taxi to Sierpe (20-30min., $5 p.p. if collective). Take the boat to Drake Bay (about 1 hour boat ride). We recommended taking the one at 11:30 a.m. ($15 p.p. = cheaper and you get here by daylight). Ask for Alex (“Chancha”), he will be your Captain. Or take the boat at 3:30 p.m. (20$ p.p.).
• From Quepos:
• The day before your trip, ask in Quepos center for a bus ticket for TRACOPA until Palmar Norte. There should be a bus leaving around 8 a.m. that enables you to catch the boat at midday. At the actual day of your trip take a bus to Quepos Hospital (about 30min, leaving every 30 minutes) or a taxi to get to the TRACOPA bus stop at the “costanera”. There, get on the bus of TRACOPA and get off in Palmar Norte. Take a (collective) taxi to Sierpe (20-30min., $5 p.p. if collective). Take the boat to Drake Bay (about 1 hour boat ride). This bus does not go on Sundays and is sometimes not leaving at all. Please ask us or in La Palma for the actual bus situation. • How to get here by car:
• Option 1:
• Important note: To get all the way to Drake Bay by car we strongly recommend a car with 4 wheel drive. You need to pass four streams between Rincón and El Progreso (although it is not necessary to cross the big river “Rio Drake” to get to Rio Drake Farm). In raining season, we recommend to plan your arrival around midday or in the early afternoon in order to avoid possible heavy afternoon rain falls complicating the access due to rising rivers. If your car does not have 4x4 or if you don´t feel like driving all the way to Drake Bay we recommend to drive to Sierpe and come by boat to Drake Bay (see second option).
• From San José, San Isidro, Quepos or Uvita:
• Drive all the way south until Chacarita (last gasoline station before Drake Bay), at the intersection there turn right to Puerto Jimenez / Bahía Drake and follow this street until Rincón before the bridge. There you turn right in the direction to Drake (gravel road). Follow the road until the little village El Progreso. El Progreso is before the big river “Rio Drake” and before the center of Drake (which is also called Agujitas). In Progreso, follow our sign to the right to Rio Drake Farm /Drake Airport. Follow the signs along the little road parallel to the runway until our parking area.
• From Neily:
• Drive on the Interamericana north until Chacarita (last gasoline station before Drake Bay), there turn left in the direction to direction to Puerto Jiménez / Bahía Drake and follow this street until Rincón before the bridge.
• From Puerto Jiménez or La Palma:
• Drive north until after the bridge of Rincón where you turn to the left in the direction to Drake (gravel road).
• Option 2
• If your car does not have 4x4 or you don´t feel like driving all the way to Drake Bay, we recommend to drive all the way to Sierpe (it’s close to Palmar Norte) and let your car in a safe parking (e. g. “El combo”, the parking of “Don Jorge”, cost: $10 per night). Then take a boat to Drake Bay (about 1 hour boat ride). We recommended taking the one at 11:30 a.m. ($15 p.p. = cheaper and you get here by daylight). Ask for Alex (“Chancha”), he will be your Captain. Or take the boat at 3:30 p.m. (20$ p.p.). We offer a free pick-up service from your arrival point.
